This new course is designed for EVERYONE who would like to explore singing jazz.
With the attitude of playful curiosity we will immerse oursleves in music that swings and explore together everything jazz:
- rhythm, feel and attitude-and how to relax into swing
- how to start experimenting with improvisation
- how to sing like an instrument
- how to bring your personality to the way you sing
- aspects of performance
- claiming a space and singing for fun
- song structure and how songs work
- articulation of lyrics to make them your own
- awareness of how good vocal technique supports you as a jazz singer
Depending on group interest there may be an opportunity to perform at the end of the course.
Rachel Bayliss is a singing teacher who works privately from her central city home. Rachel spends a good chunk of each day singing and performs around town as a jazz vocalist, runs two choirs- Youth Choir Otautahi for young people and The Diamond Harbour Singers and also loves chanting in Sanskrit with a meditation group. Rachel trained as a Jazz singer at C.P.I.T, but her main interest is community musicmaking. She has been a member of A Capellago World Music Choir for 12 years.
